The Porcellino Fountain, Good Luck in Florence

The Porcellino (Piglet) Fountain is one of the most popular monuments in Florence, it's situated near the Old Bridge.

The monument represents a boar and it's famous in the Florentine popular culture and tradition for bringing good luck. The procedure to obtain good luck from the Porcellino is put a coin into the boar's gaping jaws, with the intent to let it fall through the underlying grating, after having rubbed the boar's snout to ensure a return to Florence.

Few know that the original Porcellino monument (whose first versions date back to 1560 and 1612) is held at the Bardini Museum in Florence, while there are copies of the statue in many cities all over the world, from Munich in Germany to Sidney in Australia.
